Saint-Gobain Transitions to New Residential Well Sampling Program
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics (Saint-Gobain) has been identifying and sampling water supply wells within the 2018 Consent Decree Outer Boundary since 2019 under the Work Plan for Sampling of Water Supply Wells and Provision of Alternate Water, dated September 30, 2019 and eighteen subsequent addendum to that work plan. Results of this effort has included the collection of drinking water samples from approximately 2,600 properties, which identified nearly 1,200 properties exhibiting an exceedance of state water quality standards. The owners of these properties have been provided bottled water as an interim measure and permanent alternate water remedies (municipal water/point of entry treatment systems) are then proposed to NHDES by Saint-Gobain.
In December 2024, Saint-Gobain submitted the Revised Groundwater Management Zone Work Plan (GMZ Work Plan), which included administrative controls providing notification to certain property owners, continued residential well sampling, and continued provision of alternate water, as appropriate. The GMZ Work Plan outlined additional monitoring to be completed at properties currently eligible for alternate water and at properties with groundwater that was previously determined to be below state ambient groundwater quality standards for PFAS.
In general, samples will be collected from water supply wells so that there will be at least six PFAS sample results for each eligible property by the end of 2026. Saint-Gobain will evaluate future drinking water monitoring frequency based on the results of sampling completed in support of the GMZ Work Plan.
