Saint-Gobain Issues Letter on the Status of the Water Supply Well Sampling Program

Saint-Gobain sent a letter to NHDES on January 13, 2020 outlining how it intends to proceed with the Water Supply Well Sampling Program in light of the status of the PFAS Drinking Water Standards (MCLs) and Ambient Groundwater Quality Standards (AGQS). The Sampling Program is outlined in a Work Plan submitted on behalf of Saint-Gobain by Golder Associates, Inc. (Golder) on September 30, 2019 and in three addendums:

Addendum 1 dated November 1, 2019
Addendum 2 dated December 16, 2019
Addendum 3 dated January 6, 2020

According to the letter, Golder will continue sampling properties listed in the Work Plan and Addendum 1 and Saint-Gobain will continue to provide alternate water to properties that are “currently receiving bottled water.”

Saint-Gobain states that “the sampling work proposed in Addendum 2 to the Work Plan or later will be re-evaluated before additional sampling request letters are issued.” If you have questions pertaining to where your property fits in the Water Supply Well Sampling Program, please contact Golder at NH.RWS@golder.com or call Saint-Gobain at 1-800-742-8498.

Due to the preliminary injunction issued by the Merrimack County Superior Court, NHDES can only enforce the AGQS adopted in 2016 of 70 parts per trillion for PFOA, PFOS, or a combination of these two compounds. Since the Water Supply Well Sampling Program is addressing areas where sampling data suggest PFAS are below 70 parts per trillion, NHDES cannot compel Saint-Gobain to continue with the Water Supply Well Sampling Program.
